Attended the
MoMoS (short form for Mobile Monday on a Sunday) at IIT today. (Going first time to an IIT - Campus, more about it separate post later on). It was first of its kind in Chennai. Got confused with the huge IIT campus and were trying to locate CSD block, the venue for the event for nearly 45 minutes.
The event was planned to start to around 10:00 AM, but was about 20 minutes late, since most of the participants had similar issue of finding the location. The event had four speakers, who were speaking about various topic on the Mobile Technology.
The First Session was by Asif Ali from
Mobile-Work . He covered how the Ads in mobile will be significant market in the near future. Very interactive and interesting session. Ads on mobile will not replace mass media, but with just a market share of about 5% for mobile may do good for Subscribers, operators, aggregators, developers.
The Second session was by Anand Kannan of
Wizdom His session was about how by GPRS connection mobile phone could be a used as a learning tool.Wizdom has done learning tutorial for GRE. Though the concept is innovative, I fail to get complete picture, why some one would try to learn through small mobile phone screen, and also a slow GPRS connection.Though Anand told that it would be very useful for students who waste around 2-3 Hrs a day in travelling and will be useful for them.
The Third Session was by
Atul Chitnis of
Geodesic His session was about the people, expectations and problems in the mobile technology. It was interesting and good learning. There was also a demo of the Mundu
IM client.
The Fourth session was by Navjot Pawera of
Opera It discussed about standardization and customization of websites for Universal access of website to access from any websites. There was also a demo of Opera Mini web browser for mobile devices. There was lot of web application technical terms, It was difficult for me to get the session completely.
After the four sessions, there was a good lunch arranged at the IIT Campus Tifanys. I liked the sessions and enjoyed them, but a few of participants felt disappointed as the event didn't meet their expectations. The one missed part in the event is the networking of people, there was no time in the start or end for the networking of people.
