The Year 2007

It is an year end.Started early from office at least two hours than the usual day. It is time to recollect or remember some of the happenings of the year.

Blogging:
Since this is a blog, let me start with my blogging experience. Theoretically I have achieved my blog goal of the year. One post per week and with the previously post, I completed 52, which also completes my one year in blogging. But practically, I have written most of the post before July 2007. Before which, work was not that hectic and also I was not that lazy !!. Also attended WikiCamp and MMS.It was a good experience and meeting lot of new guys from various fields, but was unable to carry on from that.

Work:
Work was always there, and we need to make time for our personal stuff. In the initial six months, I somehow managed. But later on, two things happened, it became bit more hectic with many projects running in and I became too lazy in the weekends. (Most of my blog posts came in the weekends). From Work wise, it was a very satisfying year, lot of new projects, additional responsibilities.

Personal:
Generally I am aloof. But year 2007 was nearly an isolated one for me. Yes I have met more people than any of the previous years, thanks to wikicamp and MMS. But I never was able to carry the momentum and continue to build the network or to keep in touch with others. Friends and colleagues slowly moved away either to different company or projects, so I was finding myself in isolation most of the time. This year even I could not get in touch regularly with most of my college and Bangalore friends. 100% yes I responded to them , but I initiated or contacted them only around 20% of the time. I hope to improve the same next year.
(P.S : Generally I don't have any new year resolutions!!)

As I was thinking and writing the above post, I remember some thing .
Few years back, I have read a book "The Present". The main theme of the book was

Learn from the Past
Live in the Present
Plan for the Future

But most of the year, I have done only the second part "Live in the Present" and some thing on the "Learn from the Past" and very little towards Plan for the Future. I think I must think and do much more for the "Plan for the Future"

Some Favourites for the year 2007

I have a very limited taste or likely hood, so I avoid many of the things which might be best. Here are some of my favourites for the year 2007. (It need not be best and need not have to be written or released in 2007)

Books:"Our Ice Berg Is Melting", "Robots of the Dawn", "Ssss"(tamil)
Movies:Mozhi
Songs:Maduraiku Pogathadi, Katrin Mozhi, Vaji Vaji, Meendum Paliku Pogalam.

Orkut

I am not a regular user of orkut, (though joined almost a year back). Being a holiday today and nothing much to do, was exploring the options in my orkut profile. I think orkut has improved and have provided lot of new features compared to last year, like option to scrap in Indian languages (esp Tamil) , more privacy (or security) settings, and options to search and add friends from Gmail contact list . I am not part of any other social networking site, though sometimes get requests from friends for other sites like Face Book. didn't create an account there, since not much time for it or even If I create an account, it will just another account, with no real usage from my side. Though social networking sites, may be viewed as a time killer or sort of addiction, it I think it really helps connects people, especially friends, whom you have not met for years.

Comics From RBI !!

Everyone knows RBI prints currency for India. How about Comics? Yes RBI is printing comics as well for school kids. It is about banking and monetary policy, mainly for the school kids. You could download the same in PDF format here. Also there is something which RBI recommends not to do, but all the banks do it. Check out the video here.

Rest

Taken break from work for a week's time, after a long time. Initially planned to go kerala or kodaikanal, but dropped the plans last minute. Been to Vandalur Zoo, along with friends, last saturday. It was a good trip (esp with lion safari). Since then mostly at home, watching a boring cricket match and some "Breaking News" on Television. Going to Microsoft Security Summit tomorrow. Planning to complete the pending books, which I have started reading some time ago, the list includes Robot Dreams, Fantastic Voyage, Monk who Sold his Ferrarai, Beautiful Mind, Restaurant at the end of the Universe and few more tamil books. Also want to complete watching the few films, which I have brought the DVD some time back and still not opened the pack (list includes, sholay, Benhur !)
