Crossing the Target

Yesterday for the first time in my life I crossed my target which I have set some four years back. Though it was very late, I am still happy since, I was able to cross it finally. Now this made me to raise the bar again and set the next target. I hope to get to the target much sooner this time. Those whose wonder what was target, it was to cross 65 Kgs. All my life till yesterday I have never crossed 65 Kgs. My weight in the past three years were around 62 to 65 Kgs. Yesterday I have crossed this barrier, now my weight is 66.3Kgs. The revised target is 70Kgs. Hope to get to it by end of this year.

Slow Down Culture vs Globalisation.

Some time back, I got a mail from my friend about the slow down culture. I replied my views on that.. when I got those forward of slow down culture again, I though let me put my views on my blog. Those who have not heard of it can read a copy of the mail here..

http://restyo.blogspot.com/2007/03/slow-down-culture.html

Though some of the concepts with respect to eating and living style is good, I think this article has confused slow down culture with the globalisation.

Globalization is first not making about taking decisions quickly.. I think it has more to do about catering a local market by a foreign player.. (Not an exact definition) . Volvo, Nokia, and Erickson are very much globalized companies.

Globalization and slow down culture can co-exist depending on the demographic factor. Europe is the most developed continent long time back.. the demographic of Europe, will show that the young people are very low in number.. some time back read in a article that the retirement age in UK may be raised to 68, for the government to give pension to old people. The number of young (20-40) age group is lesser compared to other parts of the world.

The Slow Down approach at its face value cannot be taken for the Asian economy esp for China and India. The demography for India and China have huge population in the young age group (20-40) .. and the GDP growth rate is in one way or the other is related to this demographic factor. If we don't react quickly , others will just grab the market opportunity (leave alone other nations, other persons/companies will grab any market opportunity)

Happy Tamil New Year

Wish you all a Happy Tamil New Year. Enjoy the tamil poem, which I got as a forward. The poem is good, but more than that I am impressed with the poet that he has given meaning of few of the words, which people may find it difficult to understand.

Checking Broadband Bandwidth - BSNL

Want to check your broadband speed? If you are using a BSNL dataone broadband, here is a good news for you. BSNL has introduced "BSNL Broadband Speed Tester". Check this out in dataone website , "Check for download speed". I have checked this in various timings in day and night over three days, and almost got around 200-230 Kbps consistently. Also the bandwidth was around 1.7Mbps. Though BSNL's disclaimer says that you may not get this speed from national and other international websites, around 6:00 am in the morning, you get such very good download speed around 220Kbps, at other times, I got around around 150Kbps, which is still a good speed. If you a BSNL user, you would have found the difference since start of this year.

Business World

I have been a regular reader (also buyer !!) of Business World since 2003.The reason I started reading business world was, I felt it will go in hand and help my MBA. It is partially true yes, blame it on more of my procrastination and some on work pressure still I am doing my MBA (and may not complete it for another 2 years). But regularly reading Business World has helped me more in understanding today's business, than my MBA.Initially you could read it online as well.In 2005, they made it pay and read, but their price of 1$ (Rs45), did not make it any sense for an average reader.I believe and also glad that recently they have made it free again to read online, I was able to read the business world online again.Though still I will be buying the physical copy for ease of reading, having online also has its own benefit, to check old ones for reference.Check our this article about procrastination and how it is affecting the productivity.

Two Things That I Forgot

This post has some interconnection to three of my other posts, two things to remember, wikicamp and TFLW. After watching a preview of TFLW, my plan was to watch it once more along with my office friends in the favourite satyam cinemas. After the wikicamp, my decision was to create an account and contribute something back to wikipedia. But due to my busy work schedule, initially I procastinated and later forgot about them. Thanks to Bhadani, who had sent me a mail on his wikia project for India, which reminded me of the things which I have forgotten. Without much procrastination I created the accounts for the wikipedia and wikia. I have decided that initially I will spend 60 minutes a week for these two. Let me see how it goes from there. I hope, I could catch the movie TFLW again in DVD in the near future.
